Renmore Judo Club Report

Following a very successful year, Renmore Judo Club recently closed its doors for the summer.
Last September, at the beginning of our 2nd full year, we had a huge number of new children members and all through the year we have had new children each week. We offered the 1st class free of charge and this enticed quite a few to try out the sport.
In October and November many of our senior children participated in and won medals at the West of Ireland and Connacht Championships.
In January we held our 2nd Mini Mons Competition for beginners of the sport. This event attracted a large entry of almost 120 children from all around the country, from Cork to Cavan as well as the west of Ireland Clubs. There were some great fights among these novice Judo players. In the end all participants returned home with a medal, which was presented, to them by the Mayor of Galway, Clr Niall O’Brolchain.

In the Spring, some of our members were involved in both the Galway Open and All Ireland Judo Competitions. Again our members did us proud in these competitions bringing Trophies and medals back to our Club.
During May a number of our more junior members participated in the Maynooth Mini Mons Competition. Again all the children did us proud.
We have had many new members but a few extremely promising children deserve a mention, in particular, Gavin O’Connell, Caolann Sheevlin-King and Adanna Agwaraonye.
On our last evening, following our grading exams, the children were presented with their new belts by the Mayor of Galway, Clr Niall O’Brolchain, who again very kindly took time out of his busy schedule for the children. He even donned a white Judo jacket, went on the mat and allowed himself be thrown by some of our younger members, much to the delight of all present.
During the summer quite a few of the children will take part in the Annaghdown Judo Club’s Summer Camp and they are all looking forward to this, having had great fun attending it in the past few years.
Our club will be back in action on Thurs Sept 13th at 7pm, and again we welcome all newcomers. For information contact:
