Philippine Judo Federation Report

Judo Ireland Coach, Alan Martin has spend much of the summer working with the Philippine Judo Federation National Squad in preparation for the upcoming South-East Asian Judo Championships which will take place in Vietnam at the end of September 2010.

Marian 1st time Champions!

Over 80 competitors, teachers, parents & coaches, travelled from 18 schools throughout Ireland to celebrate this year’s School’s Spring Judo Championships.
Marion College, Ballsbridge hosted the Dublin Spring Judo Championships which was celebrating its 10th anniversary. Rising to the occasion, the students & staff put on a terrific event, as well as putting forward their strongest ever team which proved the depth of talent among the students.

Gonosen No Kata part 1.

1. O-Soto-Gari as counter to O-Soto-Gari.


Simultaneously Tori and Uke hold each other in the fundamental natural posture. Tori advances his right foot a half pace and thus places himself in the right natural posture, Uke as the assailant advances his left foot to the axis of Tori right foot and the attempts to throw him with O-Soto-Gari to the right. 1 Tori blocks the attack with his abdomen and bends his legs in the right self-defence posture then supports himself on his left foot on which he pivots slightly and in turn applies the O-Soto-Gari to Uke 2. Uke is to far to resist his attack and is therefore thrown 3.

2. Hiza-Guruma as counter to Hiza-Guruma


Uki rises to his feet after affected a Kata fall. From where he rises he stays. Tori takes a left natural posture .Uke attacks with Hiza Guruma to the right i.e. his left leg on Tori right 1 Tori withdraws his right leg a half pace to ward off the attack and unbalances Uke to his right front 2 Then in his turn attacks Uke with the Hiza Guruma to the right 3 and throw 4

3. De-Ashi-Bari as counter to O-Uchi-Gari.


Tori places himself in the left natural posture his legs separated. Uke attacks with O-Uchi-Gari, his right leg against Tori left leg 1. Tori blocks with his abdomen; flexes his right leg and carries the weight of his body and balance backwards on his right foot. Tori pivots slightly to the left to accentuate the right front disequilibria of Uke, lifts him with the combined effort of forearms and wrists and sweeps both Uke legs with his left leg towards his own front 2. The sole of Tori foot is turned upwards in the course of this movement chiefly sweeping Uke left ankle. Uke executes a Kata lateral fall of the Okuri-Ashi-Bari 3
