Dublin School’s Team Judo Championships 2007

Following on from their tremendous success at this years Dublin Spring Judo Championships, at which they won the ‘Best Overall School’ for the very first time, Coolmine Community College came strong & confident to this season’s final school’s judo tournament, ‘The Dublin School’s Team Judo Championships’ which were hosted by last year’s winners Plunket College. With 2 very strong teams, the convincingly took both the Senior & Junior Boys titles.

The Senior Team’s first opponents were Pobalscoil Rosmini, who drew first blood with C. Kelly throwing Stephen Murphy for Ippon with a devastating foot sweep, but they wasted no time coming back with Oisín O’Neill, David Carroll & James McKeown all winning their matches by Ippon, before Rosmini’s All-Ireland Champion, Colin Kiernan, , who was unbeaten all day took the final match. Coolmine won 3:2. Next up they defeated last year’s runners-up, CBS Synge St. 4:1, before whitewashing High School, Rathgar B, 5:0 & then High School’s A Team 4:1 in the final match.

Synge Street CBS took second place again, with Rosmini taking third.

In the Junior event, Coolmine proved superb once again, defeating last years runners-up, Plunket College A Team in their first group match 4:1 and a very unlucky, but tough Blackrock College 3:1 with 1 match drawn in their second match. On the other pool, Synge St. CBS were in superb form blasting past St. Patrick’s, Cavan, Rosmini & Plunket B Team with a 4:1 winning margin each time. Coolmine won 4 matches in the semi-final against Plunket B, with Carl Gallagher, Arran Keogh, Oisín O’Neill & Danny Shum all winning by Ippon, with Michael Bowes taking the only victory for Plunket’s against Keith Rogers. In the other semi-final, Synge St CBS also won by 4:1 with Vesco, Alex Foley, Aaron Brackett & Derek Kelly all winning by Ippon. Plunkets only win came from Wesley Delaney who defeated Craig Mooney. The final was a great match with Coolmine taking the honours 3:2.

In the Girls event, Castleknock Community College won their 3rd consecutive title, with team captain Christina Kelly, Ute Greene & Danielle Mongey the same team as last year.

A special word of thanks must go to Paul Prior & the staff of Plunket College who made their school available to all of us on the day.
