Philippine Judo Federation Report

Judo Ireland Coach, Alan Martin has spend much of the summer working with the Philippine Judo Federation National Squad in preparation for the upcoming South-East Asian Judo Championships which will take place in Vietnam at the end of September 2010.

Marian 1st time Champions!

Over 80 competitors, teachers, parents & coaches, travelled from 18 schools throughout Ireland to celebrate this year’s School’s Spring Judo Championships.
Marion College, Ballsbridge hosted the Dublin Spring Judo Championships which was celebrating its 10th anniversary. Rising to the occasion, the students & staff put on a terrific event, as well as putting forward their strongest ever team which proved the depth of talent among the students.

10th Dublin Primary School’s Judo Championships 2007

50 Contestants from all over Ireland took part in this year’s competition. For most players, this was their first taste of competition & they all rose to the occasion, with some hotly contested categories in all age & weight groups.

Sean Donoghue, St. Mary’s NS, Lambs Cross, won the opening event, U-22 kg, U-6 years, with a straight win against clubmate Jack Keating who took second place, while Harry McGovern, from the same school won at U-23 kg, U-7 yrs.

Female Player of the Day, Sarah O’Gara, Scoil Bhríde, Coolmine, was in incredible form, retaining the same title she won last year, winning all her fights by Ippon, while 6 year-pld Fintan Farry, Pats BNS, Drumcondra, proved far too strong for all opponents at U-28 kg, U-8 years, winning 2 matches by textbook Ippon Seoi Nage & the Male Player of the Day title

Under-11 years, Brendan Mullins, Scoil na Mainistreach, Roscommon, won all his 3 matches to win the lightest category, while David Carroll, St. Josephs, Fairview, won the heavier division in the same age group.

Andrew Flynn, Gaelscoil ne Cille won at U-44 kg, U-12 yrs, with Zoë O’Gara, Scoil Bhríde, Coolmine, Jesse Hamill, St. Patricks, Drumcondra & Adam Kelly, Huntstown NS, sharing joint 2nd place finishing on equal wins & points.

St. Mary’s PS, Lambs Cross won the most Successful School title with gold medals for Sean Donoghue, Harry McGovern & Shona Kelly.

A special word of thanks must go to David Kane, Cathal Ó Fainin & Colin Kiernan who manned the table all day & to referees Eamon Fitzpatrick & Pavla Handlirova who presided very fairly over the entire competition.
