Dublin School’s Spring Judo Championships 2007
Coolmine Community College, Dublin 15 finally came through & fulfilled the promise they have been showing in the past few years. 15-year old Rachel Murray led their charge to 6 Gold Medals, winning both her own weight & the Open categories. In both finals, she defeated a very brave Lisa Egan, Ashbourne Community College. Carl Gallagher, Aaron Keogh & Oisín O’Neill all won Gold in the Junior Boy Categories, while James McKeon dominated at U76 n the Senior Event to give Coolmine their 6th Gold medal & a 16 point lead over their nearest rivals Moville Community School from north Donegal. It was with great pride that Mr. Shane Flanagan, Coolmine’s coach collected the ‘Most Successful School’ trophy from Mr. Sato, Cultural Attach é with the Japanese Embassy here in Ireland.
Moville Community School, Donegal won a deserved 2nd place overall with 3 Gold medals at only their 2nd attempt. Their teacher & coach, Seamus Gallagher was beaming with pride as they left for the long drive home after the event. Their star player was Ciarán Harrigan with 2 Gold medals, with Seán Doherty taking the final one. Heather Murphy took a Silver & Bronze, while Laura Bonner won 2 Bronze.
Castleknock Community College also took 3 Gold Medals as well as 2 ‘Player of the Day’ awards.
Stephen Higgins won the junior boys U60kg title with some very stylish judo to win the Player of the Day Award, while lightweight Christina Kelly took both the U52 & Open categories in the Senior Girl’s event to win her ‘Player of the Day’ award. Christina has been in dominant form since winning her first Senior Womens title in 2006, at the tender age of 16.
Colin Kiernan, Rosmini took his 4th ‘Player of the Day’ award after winning at Senior Heavyweight & Open events, while school friends Fabio Viti retained his Senior U60kg title & Philip Boyle took bronze in the Junior Heavyweight division.
All had a super day of judo, and it was all thanks to the hard work & support of the staff & students of Coláiste Eoin who made it all possible. Also a special word of thanks must go to Lisa Keogh, student Services, Bank of Ireland without who’s sponsorship the event could not have taken place.
