Galway Open 2007

The 37th Galway Open was held last weekend with almost 100 players coming from all over Ireland. With the development of the new clubs, the medals are went all over the Ireland and the traditional strongholds of Judo were faced with a new and tougher challenge then before.

This year’s event was characterised by the more fluid judo by the Juniors rather than in the way of the past of knocking the opponent down and squeezing the life out of them with a hold down. Should these juniors keep that style of Judo as they get older then the senior judo should be much more appealing to the public.

The seniors although a smaller entry than previous years generated some fine contests. Tadius Bocious of Ennis J.C. was in outstanding form beating all opponents to take the >100kg.

Best Male Youth: Rati Liparteliein, St.Josephs
Best Female Junior: Francine Kyne
