Blarney Street Judo Club

Blarney street judo club was started in April 2004 with the aim to bring judo back to the north side of cork city where it thrived in the seventies and eighties, producing great Irish and international players.
The club is unique in the way that our head coach is the only female instructor in Munster, additionally she has over 13 years experience. 1st dan black belt, Sarah Mc Gillicuddy, originally from listowel Co. Kerry has been in Cork for the past 5 years studying in UCC and coaching and practicing Judo in various clubs. Her experience and knowledge of the ancient art and sport are a great asset to anyone wanting to start or continue practicing judo. She is assisted in the running of the club by Anthony Cotter (blue belt) and Brian Walsh (brown belt) who have approximately 20 years experience between them.

Club members Paul Deasy(-66kgs) and Graham Duggan(-81kgs) recently competed in the west of Ireland open judo championships hosted by the Galway judo club. The day was a Great success with both players coming home with 3rd place bronze medals in their weight categories. The competition was an under 18`s event and was well attended by clubs all over the country with some superb Judo talent on display.

We would also like to offer our congratulations to all our members who recently took part in our senior and junior gradings with all students passing their gradings with ease.
Anyone who would like to give judo a try should contact Sarah (0879912058) or Anthony (0877771831). Classes run on Monday and Wednesday at 8:30 for over 14`s and Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00 for under 14. Our Dojo is located at the Sitjaipetch warriors thai boxing club off blarney street,formerly Falveys gym.
