Kate Howey Judo Course Report
Hazama Maghaberry Judo Club & their senior coach Mark Montgomery once again gathered judoka from all over Ireland for another World Class Judo Coaching Session in Lisburn Leisureplex
on June 10th 2006.
Kate Howey, World Judo Champion 1997, multi-Medalist at Olympic, World & European level took 3 sessions through the day, starting with the 5-8 year olds, who she taught many games which will help them develop their basic movement skills for judo.
Next she took the 9-13 year olds, with whom she honed the skills she had worked on with the younger group.
The senior group had a real treat, as she started with her favourite newaza technique, Juji Getame. She showed the class 3 entries to the armlock, from attacking Uki while he is on all fours, on his stomach & while Tori is on his back.
Next, she showed us 2 of her favourite techniques she used to throw opponents who favoured the Jigotai stance. The first was Ko Soto Gake, then a very powerful Ko Uchi Gake, taking Uki cleanly onto his back.
Finally, she demonstrated her powerful Morote Gari, for which she became so famous.
Congratulations to Mark & all his team for organising the event & to Kate who gave us such a rewarding & informative day of World Class Judo.
