Dublin School’s Team Judo Championships 2006

Dublin School’s Team Judo Championships 2006 took place on 8th May in Plunket College, Swords Rd., Whitehall, Dublin 9.

Plunket College Senior Boys Team reversed last year’s results by beating a very strong Synge St. CBS to win their first ever title at the Annual School’s Team Judo Championships on home ground. Gary Moran shone all through the day & put the final beyond reach by beating the on form Stephan Triffo in the deciding bout. Plunket’s threw down the gauntlet early in the preliminaries, whitewashing Árd Scoil Ris, then beating a very strong O’Connell’s CBS 3:2, next they defeated Wesley College 4:1, then Pobalscoil Rosmini 3:2. In the semi-final they disposed of Ashbourne Community College 4:1. The Senior Team included Mark Howard, Barry Judge, Jim Bray, Gary Moran, Gildiu Dodiu & Shane Howard. Synge St. CBS, champions for the past 2 years defeated Árd Scoil Ris B Team, Ashbourne Community College & Belvedere College on the way to the semis where they defeated O’Connell’s CBS 3:2. However Plunket’s were determined not to make the mistakes of last year & were convincing Champions.

Synge St. CBS Junior Team were completely dominant in their event, whitewashing Plunket College B in the first round, then defeating Ashbourne Community College 4:1. In the semi-final, they defeated Plunket College A 5:0, before defeating Plunket B in the final 5:0. Blackrock College won the other pool defeating Plunket A & St. David’s CBS, Artane before losing out to Plunket B in the semi-final.

The girls Event proved a super competition. In the final Castleknock Community College whitewashed Ashbourne Community College, with team captain Christina Kelly, Ute Greene & Danielle Mongey all winning their matches by Ippon. The Ashbourne girls Emma & Claire O’Brien & Lisa Egan, put up a great fight but were not able to stop a rampant Castleknock who were determined to retain their title, which they first won last year.

A special word of thanks must go to David O’Reilly & the staff of Plunket College who made their school available to all of us on the day. They were so pleased with the organisation of the event, they have offered to host the 2007 event on Monday, 07th May, which we were all delighted to accept.

Thanks also to Harry Ryan who took photographs of the event.
