A super entry from all parts of Ireland & abroad made this in a fantastic day’s judo at the Cavan VEC on Saturday, 08th April.
Competitors came from all over around Europe to compete for this year’s titles. Alfred Browne, Larkin College, Dublin took both the Junior +60kg & Open categories and the title of Junior Male player of the day, defeating Colin Kiernan, Rosmini in both finals. Both players were in great form defeating all other opponents, but Alfred’s class really showed through in the end.
Alfred also took silver in the Senior Men’s –81kg section losing only to the senior player of the day, Sergio Racovet, DIT. Sergio also won the Senior Open category after a titanic battle with the –90kg gold Medalist, Lithuanian-born, Ennis-based Tadas Pocius. Kimberley Savage won at +57kg, while Shauna O’Donoghue won at –57kg. Roisín Galligan, Cavan won an exciting –25kg while Hayley Boylan, SBG Northside defeated Sarah Brady, Ashbourne to win at –32kg.
With standards on the rise, it was superb to see our rising young talent competing so well against the tide of superb new players coming to live among us & train with us from all over the world. This can only go to bring our Judo standards in Ireland to new & greater heights.
