Annaghdown, Galway, had an incredible day taking 12 Gold, 7 Silver & 6 Bronze medals at Minor & Junior level. Among there star performers were Hubert Creaven at U60kg, his brother Michael U45kg, and girls Aisling Kelly, U52kg & Kimberley Savage, U63kg.

Maghaberry Judo Club, Co. Down brought down a splendid crop of exciting young players winning 4 Gold, 2 Silver & 3 Bronze. Under the guidance of coach Mark Montgomery, I feel sure they will be fired up after this excellent performance.

It was wonderful to see the number of exciting young players coming through the ranks of our school’s programme, competing very successfully at senior level. Christina Kelly, Castleknock Community College was in splendid form defeating Angela Lindstrom, DIT, in the U52kg final, while Fabio Viti, Pobalscoil Rosmini took the Men’s U60kg title & Gwen Farrell, Muckross Park won at Senior U70kg.

DIT dominated the senior categories, with Michael McKenna, the former Blackrock College Team Captain, disposing of Scott Farrell, St. Michael’s College in the final of the U73kgs in only 17 seconds. While Aidan O’Sullivan, also DIT, formerly St. Michael’s College took the U90kg title.

With the students all fired up, they are now looking forward to the Irish Intervarsity Championships in Galway on February 18th, while many of the school students will travel to Paris next week-end to attend the Tournoi de Paris, one of the World’s greatest Judo Competitions & then train for a week in some of the splendid French dojos.
