DIT Judo Club Open Championships
Players from all over Ireland enjoyed a fantastic day’s Judo
at the first ever DIT Open Judo Championships held in the DIT
Gym at Kevin Street.
Player of the Day was undoubtedly Alfred Browne, Larkin College,
who won the Young Men’s –81kg & Open Categories as well as
the Senior Yellow Belt title.
Players from the CBS Colleges in O’Connell’s, Synge St. & St.
Josephs, Fairview, competed with players from Larkin & Sandford
Park Colleges for the Youth titles.
Best Newcomer has to go to Christopher Bowe, WIT taking the
White Belt section with 6 Ippon wins, while O’Connell’s schoolboy,
Jeffrey Owie, was a revelation in the same event.
Veteran, Ray Stears, Portmarnock, proved far too good for the
opposition, winning all 6 fights by Ippon, including the final against
Seán Davitt, WIT.
DIT won the team event with Michael McKenna, Patrick Lindstrom
& Gareth McNamara.
Following the success of the event, it looks set to become an
annual event on the Irish Judo calendar.
